Jesus invites the would-be disciples to "Come and see…”
A young man climbs a 1667-foot skyscraper, all 101 floors, without a rope or net.
Onlookers marvel at his remarkable focus, flexibility, and strength.
Agile feet and fingers grip glaciers of glass.
We look away and then back again, strangely compelled.
Come. And See.
Another tragic death at the hands of immigration “officials.”
Reports are these folks are innocent protesters; others say they are obstructing justice.
We look. We look away.
Icy winter weather slams across the continent.
A world away, the climber stops to take in the view.
People appear smaller from higher up.
A comfortable home walls out the cold.
A warm, safe space should not be a luxury.
Some will succumb to exposure tonight.
What are we looking for, Jesus?
It takes focus, flexibility, and strength to follow Christ.
Sometimes we avert our gaze for self-preservation.
Come. And. See.
Faith without works may be dead, and curiosity without compassion can be deadly.
Confession is good for the soul.
A lone climber gazes upward at the challenge before him.
"It feels infinite," he says, and begins his ascent.
Let us pray...
Loving God, lead us from unreal to real.
Help us see past the distractions of a stormy world desperate for healing,
that we may be of service.
Remind us that, with You, nothing is impossible.
Give us focus, flexibility, and strength so that all may ascend.
Amen.
